About the UN Global Compact, PRME, and the SDGs

How are these different UN initiatives connected?

The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a collection of 17 global goals, revealed by the UN in 2015. These goals are meant to encourage individuals, businesses, schools, NGOs and governments across the world to work together to solve social and environmental issues, with a target date of completion by 2030. The Sustainable Development Goals are the succession to the earlier Millennium Development Goals project.

The United Nations Global Compact is a global voluntary initiative. CEOs of businesses around the world can become signatories, making a commitment to follow the 10 Global Compact Principles in support of human rights, decent labour, environmental responsibility, and anti-corruption. The UN Global Compact is currently working to support the Sustainable Development Goals.

Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) is a project of the UN Global Compact. PRME gives business and management educational institutions a way to support the Global Compact principles and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Schools who become signatories commit to helping students become responsible, ethical, and socially-aware business professionals. The Sobey School of Business became a PRME signatory in 2014.
