Canadian Research Knowledge Network

The Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) has made an agreement with Saint Mary's University to support open access publishing. Through this agreement, Saint Mary's University authours are eligible to receive discounts on Article Processing Charges (APC). The publishing discounts available to SMU authours are listed below.

Open Access Publishing Discounts for Saint Mary's University Authors

American Chemical Society 

SMU authors are entitled to an Author Processing Fee (APC) discount of $250.00 USD.

Authors should remind the publisher, when submitting articles, that they are entitled to Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) discounts. 

 

Canadian Science Publishing

SMU authors are entitled to an Author Processing Fee (APC) discount of 25% on all journals except agricultural journals: (Canadian Journal of Agricultural Science, Canadian Journal of Soil Science, Canadian Journal of Plant Science).

As of January 1, 2023, corresponding authors affiliated with CRKN member institutions will be able to publish an unlimited number of articles as open access in the following journals at no charge:

1. Biochemistry and Cell Biology 

2. Canadian Journal of Physics 

3. Canadian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology 2

4. Genome 

5. Transactions of the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering

Authors should remind the publisher, when submitting articles, that they are entitled to Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) discounts. 

 

Elsevier

SMU authors are entitled to an Author Processing Fee (APC) discount of 20% on Gold or Hybrid Open Access journals.

Institute of Physics (IOP)

Saint Mary's researchers who are corresponding authors are able to publish an unlimited number of articles in IOP hybrid and gold journals at no charge.

Authors should remind the publisher, when submitting articles, that they are entitled to Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) discounts.

Note that selected IOP journals are excluded from this offer.  

 

Royal Society of Chemistry

SMU authors are entitled to an Author Processing Fee (APC) discount of 15% for RSC hybrid journals.

Authors should remind the publisher, when submitting articles, that they are entitled to Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) discounts.

 

SAGE 

SMU authors are able to publish articles in SAGE Choice journals under an open access license with no Article Processing Charge (APC).

For SAGE’s fully open access journals, authors will only receive a 40% APC discount. Some Sage journals are excluded and have no open access option. The list of SAGE’s gold journals can be found here.

Taylor & Francis 

SMU authors are entitled to an Author Processing Fee (APC) discount of 25% for T&F Open Select Journals. 

Authors should remind the publisher, when submitting articles, that they are entitled to Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) discounts.

 

Wiley 

SMU corresponding authors will get Author Processing Charges (APC) waived in Wiley hybrid scholarly journals. Authors should remind the publisher, when submitting articles, that they are entitled to Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) discounts.
