Message for Students

As a student at Saint Mary's University, you are responsible for upholding the University's values and academic integrity principles. Take time to familiarize yourself with the University's Academic Integrity Regulation and always ask your instructor before using AI in your work. Even if you are given permission to use AI by your instructor, your responsibility to demonstrate honesty in your work remains the same.

It's important to remember that although AI provides several benefits, it also presents many ethical concerns and academic integrity issues. For suggestions on how to responsibly use AI as a student, visit the AI & Academic Integrity page on this guide.

What is Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial intelligence is all around us and is quickly becoming more common in our daily lives. In simple terms, AI refers to "the capacity of computers or other machines to exhibit or simulate intelligent behaviour" (Oxford English Dictionary, 2023).
