Outside of the Library's Research Help hours, try Novanet Live Help. Live Help is an online chat-based reference service provided by Novanet libraries. This service is designed to respond to brief questions that can be answered quickly and effectively using online resources.
Student Assignments
Students often turn to library staff for assistance with assignments. You can help us help your students! Please alert the Research Help team of any assignments that involve large classes, particularly when the assignment may draw on limited research resources. Let us know by emailing Nicole Carter, Reference and Research Librarian at nicole.carter@smu.ca.
Research Support for Faculty
Our Research-by-Appointment service is available to faculty. If you would like to discuss your research initiatives, new course proposals, or resources available to support you, send an email to research@smu.ca to set up a time.
Data Resources
Many interactive and aggregated statistical resources are now searchable and downloadable directly from the Statistics Canada website. If the Statistics Canada website requires money to access a product, check with us at research@smu.ca before paying.
Through the Library, you have access to Canada's Data Liberation Initiative (DLI). Self-serve access for some of these datasets is available via the Nesstar data portal (which you can find via Databases A-Z). Visit our Statistics and Data Research Guide to access StatCan and other business and economic data resources.
Questions? We're here to help! Contact Digital Services Librarian Joyce Thomson joyce.thomson@smu.ca for more information or to schedule a data consultation.
Databases
The Library subscribes to over a hundred indexes and full-text databases, most of which are accessible via the Library's website. If you have any difficulties finding or accessing Library resources, including databases, e-books, journals articles, or statitical information, email research@smu.ca for assistance.
