Research Support for Faculty

If you would like to discuss your research initiatives, new course proposals, or learn more about the resources available to support you, there are several ways to get research support from the Patrick Power Library:

  • Book an AppointmentThe Library offers personalized assistance through our Research-by-Appointment service. Both students and faculty may schedule one-on-one appointments with a librarian for in-depth assistance with their research needs. Virtual and in-person appointments are available. 
  • Visit the Research Help Desk: Visit us in-person at the Research Help Desk. Located on the first floor of the Library, our friendly staff are ready to assist you with any research needs you have. Drop by anytime during our open hours for personalized help and guidance.

  • Email or Call for Support: Feel free to reach out to us by phone (902-420-5544), send us a text (902-702-3057), or drop us an email (research@smu.ca).

Research Data Management

Library help with research data management can include, but is not limited to:

  • Ensuring the proper licensing for reuse is applied to the data.
  • Assist in identifying possible subject discipline repositories.
  • Assist with uploading research data and metadata to the SMU Dataverse.
  • Ensuring that the uploading and sharing of data complies with funder and/or journal requirements.

ORCID for Faculty

ORCID is a free online service where scholarly authors can list all their publications and work. Many publishers now require or recommend having an ORCID ID. The Library encourages Faculty members to register for an ORCID ID. To learn more about ORCID, please visit our ORCID for Faculty guide.
